If you are planning your wedding in near future, you probably would like some good music played during the ceremony.

You have two main options to consider:

  • hiring a DJ
  • or a whole band to perform live.

Both of them have their advantages and disadvantages.

DJ – a simple alternative for a band?

But lets say, you’ve chosen to hire a DJ – which is usually a cheaper solution, sometimes it can even be better – as the play list used by DJ’s will usually be made of new hits, or some oldies, that everyone knows.

Also, music played by DJ’s is usually considered as a ‘dance music’, and what would fit dancing more, then music made to do it?

Not as easy, at it seems

Choosing a good DJ is a hard task.

Actually, many people believe, that all the DJ’s are similar, if not the same. But you can’t be further from truth.

Every single DJ is completely different, not only because of the music he plays, but also because of hardware he uses, his behavior and so on.

So you really want to prepare yourself in terms of how to find a good one. So here is a good start:

  • Make sure that you check his experience – ask him, at how many weddings he has played,
  • Check if he has suitable, professional equipment ( a lot of DJ’s use some homemade stereo systems, which aren’t really good for commercial uses, at such ceremonies as wedding ).
  • Do not forget, that being a DJ is not only about playing music, you also need to keep in mind, that such person should be a nice master of ceremony, who will encourage people to have fun at the dance floor.
  • Also, remember that DJ’s playing at weddings have very tight schedule. You may have to book him at least 5-6 months before your planned wedding, otherwise you may have hard time finding someone.

DJ’s may be a better options for some people planning a wedding, then a band. Especially, if you are going to invite a variety of guests with different music tastes.

A  good DJ will play music suitable for everyone, so everyone will be able to have fun. This way, you will avoid disappointment from your guests, who do not like the same music styles as you do.

Do you have any experiences with DJ’s ? Positive or negative?
